What is a sofa bed?
The term sofa bed refers to any sofa which can be converted into a bed. They may have a bed frame stored beneath the sofa cushions, which folds out. Or, some sofa beds have a back which drops down to create a comfortable sleeping surface for guests.
Sofa beds normally fold out into a double, or queen size bed. However, chair beds which fold out into a single bed are growing in popularity. These can be a great option for small spaces like studio apartments or two-bed flats.
The Benefits of Sofa Beds
- Space-saving. Whereas a guest bed can take up a large amount of floor space, and may only get used once or twice a year, a sofa bed takes up only a fraction of the space. They’re a great option for smaller homes, and rooms with more than one purpose. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need a dedicated guest room in your house to have guests stay the night!
- Handy. Sofa beds can be useful for a range of occasions – not just for having family stay at Christmas! If you’re redecorating your bedroom and need an alternative place to sleep, or your partner catches a cold and is snoring up a storm, having a spare bed in your home can be a lifesaver.
- Practical. It’s a smart idea to have furniture in your home that serves more than one purpose. Combining your sofa and guest bed gives you the best of both worlds – and we can attest that our sofa beds are wonderfully comfortable, whether they’re folded up or down.
